The political capital of Martinique, Fort-de-France has a thriving commercial center and a number of historic sites.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Fort-de-France: Presqu'ile de la Caravelle (in Tartane), Memorial de l'Anse Caffard (in Le Diamant) and La Savane des Esclaves (in Trois-Ilets). There's still lots to do: take in nature's colorful creations at Jardin de Balata, contemplate the long history of Habitation Clement, stroll through Anse Dufour, and contemplate the geological forces at Montagne Pelee.
