A Wondrous Diversity of Life

Great Smoky Mountains National Park contains some of the highest mountains east of the Mississippi River, but it's the ease of access that makes this national park the United States' most visited.
Step out of the city life by going to Cades Cove and Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail. Get a sense of the local culture at Mingus Mill and Walker Sisters' Cabin. There's much more to do: take in the awesome beauty at Mount LeConte, hike along Deep Creek, identify plant and animal life at Roaring Fork, and steep yourself in history at Little Greenbrier School.

For photos, reviews, other places to visit, and more tourist information, you can read our Great Smoky Mountains National Park day trip planner.

Bryson City to Great Smoky Mountains National Park is an approximately 1.5-hour car ride. In September, plan for daily highs up to 83°F, and evening lows to 62°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 19th (Sat) early enough to travel back home.
