The largest city on the island, Fukuoka formed through the merger of two former cities that had grown up either side of the Naka River.

An important gateway for trade and travel between Honshu and Kyushu, the city of Kitakyushu has an old industrial waterfront and provides access to a number of natural sites across the wider region.
On the 10th (Mon), get a new perspective on nature at Kitakyushu Museum of Natural History & Human History, step into the grandiose world of Kokura Castle, then take a stroll through Mojiko Retro, then see the interesting displays at Kyushu Railway History Museum, and finally make a trip to Old Kyushu Railroad Head Quarters. Here are some ideas for day two: take in the dramatic natural features at Hiraodai and then don't miss a visit to Mojiko Retro Tenbowsitsu.
