With the largest international airport on the island, Chitose serves for most visitors as a way in or a way out, rather than a destination in itself.
Get some cultural insight at Royce' Chocolate World and Old Shimamatsu Communication Station. Your inner history buff will appreciate Nakajima Shrine and Katta Shrine. Explore Chitose's surroundings by going to Tomakomai City Midorigaoka Park Observation Deck (in Tomakomai), Yoshitsune Shrine (in Biratori-cho) and Noboribetsu (Noboribetsu Bear Park, Oyunumagawa Natural Footbath, & more). The adventure continues: indulge in Japan's hot spring tradition at some of the top local onsens, explore the activities along Lake Shikotsu, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Chitose Shrine, and buy something for everyone on your list at Chitose Outlet Mall Rera.

If you are flying in from Malaysia, the closest major airports are New Chitose Airport, Asahikawa Airport and Hakodate Airport. Expect a daytime high around 1°C in December, and nighttime lows around -9°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 13th (Fri) so you can travel back home.
