Located in the popular holiday region of Ticino, Lugano is the largest Italian-speaking town in Switzerland.
Visiting Lake Lugano and Monte San Salvatore will get you outdoors. Popular historic sites such as Monte San Giorgio and Chiesa dei Santi Fedele e Simone are in your itinerary. Explore Lugano's surroundings by going to Valle Verzasca (in Lavertezzo), Bellinzona (Chiesa di Santa Maria delle Grazie, Castelgrande, &more) and Orselina (Castello Bernese & Sacromonte e Santuario Madonna del Sasso). Mendrisio to Lugano is an approximately half hour car ride. You can also take a train. July in Lugano sees daily highs of 33°C and lows of 20°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 18th (Sun) to allow enough time to drive to Airolo.

Airolo is a municipality in the district of Leventina in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland.HistoryIn the settlement of Madrano, Roman tombs from the 2nd and 3rd centuries AD were found. Start off your visit on the 19th (Mon): take in the history at Teufelsbrucke, see the interesting displays at Sasso San Gottardo, and then take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at St Gotthard Pass.
