Start off your visit on the 2nd (Mon): get outside with Outdoor Activities. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: Head underground at Rio Secreto, then find something for the whole family at Xcaret, and then admire the masterpieces at Gaston Charo Art Gallery Playa del Carmen.

You can drive from Cancun to Playa del Carmen in an hour. Alternatively, you can take a shuttle; or take a bus. In August in Playa del Carmen, expect temperatures between 86°F during the day and 72°F at night. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 4th (Wed) so you can go by car to Tulum.

Tulum

The only Mayan site built to overlook the ocean, Tulum remains a coastal paradise preserving the last vestiges of a pre-Hispanic civilization.
Spend the 6th (Fri) among aquatic life with a scuba or snorkeling tour. And it doesn't end there: explore the ancient world of Tulum Archaeological Site, Head underground at Cenotes Sac Actun, head outdoors with Outdoor Activities, and contemplate the waterfront views at Gran Cenote.
