Famous for its resemblance to the ancient settlements of Jerusalem and Cappadocia, Matera remains one of the oldest inhabited cities in the world.
Take a break from Matera with a short trip to Centro Storico di Craco in Craco, about 54 minutes away. There's still lots to do: get to know the fascinating history of Sassi di Matera, pause for some serene contemplation at Church of Santa Maria de Idris, explore the ancient world of Cripta del Peccato Originale, and walk around Parco della Murgia Materana.
