The most well-known city in the Algarve, Faro boasts a cliffside location with popular beaches and a thriving cultural scene.
Do some cultural sightseeing at Old Town Faro and Atelier Zea. Visit Praia do Barril and Cabanas de Tavira Beach for some beach relaxation. Get out of town with these interesting Faro side-trips: Tavira (Tavira Island & Sao Bras Chapel) and Fortaleza de Cacela (in Vila Nova de Cacela). There's lots more to do: get a new perspective on things with Boat Tours & Water Sports, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Faro Cathedral, walk around Ria Formosa, and steep yourself in history at Caique Bom Sucesso.

Porto to Faro is an approximately 5.5-hour car ride. You can also fly; or drive; or take a train. In August, Faro is somewhat warmer than Porto - with highs of 34°C and lows of 23°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 5th (Wed) early enough to drive to Lagos.
