Matsuyama features a number of historical sites and acts as a gateway for exploring the rest of Shikoku.

Plan for colder temperatures traveling from Kuala Lumpur in December, with highs in Matsuyama at 13°C and lows at 7°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 9th (Mon) early enough to go by car to Kochi.

On the 10th (Tue), make a trip to Ryoma Sakamoto Bronze Statue, enjoy the sand and surf at Katsura Hama, then make a trip to Harimaya Bridge, then browse the eclectic array of goods at Hirome Ichiba, and finally steep yourself in history at Kochi Castle.

Traveling by car from Matsuyama to Kochi takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or take a train. December in Kochi sees daily highs of 15°C and lows of 4°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 10th (Tue) to allow time to drive to Takamatsu.

A modern city and a major transport hub facing Seto Inland Sea, Takamatsu offers a bustling city lifestyle contrasted with carefully manicured, tranquil green areas at the foot of the mountains and the lava plateau.

Change things up with these side-trips from Takamatsu: Naoshima-cho (Naoshima, Chichu Art Museum, & more), Naruto (Onaruto Bridge, Otsuka Museum of Art, & more) and Miyoshi (Oboke Koboke & Iya Kazura Bridge). Traveling from Kochi in December, expect nights in Takamatsu to be about the same, around 3°C, while days are little chillier, around 11°C. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 14th (Sat) to allow enough time to travel back home.
