Santa Cruz

— 6 nights
Santa Cruz remains synonymous with surfing, but this counterculture bastion offers plenty even if you don't plan to catch any waves.
Step out of the city life by going to Point Lobos and 17-Mile Drive. Do your shopping at The Cheese Shop and Ocean Avenue. Get out of town with these interesting Santa Cruz side-trips: Carmel (China Cove and Gibson Beach & Carmel River State Beach), Monterey (Old Fisherman's Wharf, Monterey Bay Food Tours, &more) and Hanuman Yoga Retreat (in Saratoga). Next up on the itinerary: immerse yourself in nature at Asilomar State Beach, kick back and relax at Seabright State Beach, see majestic marine mammals with a dolphin and whale watching tour, and learn about winemaking at Storrs Winery.
