Built on seven hills, Lisbon has experienced a renaissance in recent years, making it the cultural star of Portugal.
Explore Lisbon's surroundings by going to Sintra (Park and National Palace of Pena, Sintra National Palace, &more). There's lots more to do: get up close and personal with brilliant marine life at Lisbon Oceanarium, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Mosteiro dos Jeronimos, make a trip to Praca do Comercio (Terreiro do Paco), and wander the streets of Alfama.

You can drive from Lisbon to Albufeira in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or take a train. In July, plan for daily highs up to 34°C, and evening lows to 23°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 1st (Sat) early enough to go by car back home.
