Padang

— 6 nights

Porch of Medina

The largest city on the western coast of Sumatra, Padang enjoys a reputation as one of Indonesia's cleanest and greenest cities despite its hub of residential and commercial activity.
Step out of Padang with an excursion to Lake Maninjau in Bukittinggi--about 3 hours away. There's still lots to do: take in the dramatic scenery at Waterfall Lembah Anai, step off the mainland to explore Pasumpahan Island, head outdoors with Lubuk Nyarai, and contemplate the waterfront views at Pelabuhan Muaro.

To see maps, other places to visit, more things to do, and more tourist information, go to the Padang journey site.

If you are flying in from Australia, the closest major aiport is Minangkabau International Airport. September in Padang sees daily highs of 35°C and lows of 26°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 6th (Sun) early enough to travel back home.
