First Akmola, then Tselinograd, and now Astana: the city's latest name means "capital," something Astana became in 1998.
Step off the beaten path and head to Bauyrzhan Momyshuly Park and Monument to the Soldiers of World War II. Go for a jaunt from Nur-Sultan to Malinovka to see Alzhir, Memorial Museum of Victims of Political Repressions and Totalitarianism about 46 minutes away. There's much more to do: pause for some photo ops at Bayterek Tower, take in the pleasant sights at Nurzhol Boulevard, explore the world behind art at National Museum of Kazakhstan, and make a trip to Monument to Aliya Moldagulova.

To see other places to visit, maps, more things to do, and tourist information, use the Nur-Sultan online trip builder.

If you are flying in from Sweden, the closest major aiport is Astana International Airport. Expect a daytime high around 30°C in June, and nighttime lows around 15°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 7th (Sun) to allow time to travel back home.
