City of Lakes

A pair of vast lakes separate the old and the new in Bhopal, the state capital.
Take a break from the city and head to Upper Lake and Rock Shelters of Bhimbetka. Step out of Bhopal with an excursion to Bhojeshwar Temple in Bhojpur--about 52 minutes away. Next up on the itinerary: delve into the distant past at Buddhist Monuments at Sanchi, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Taj ul Masajid, and make a trip to Tropic of Cancer.

To see other places to visit, where to stay, traveler tips, and more tourist information, use the Bhopal travel route website.

New Delhi to Bhopal is an approximately 3.5-hour flight. You can also take a train; or drive. In December, plan for daily highs up to 30°C, and evening lows to 13°C. You will leave for Khajuraho on the 27th (Wed).

Khajuraho

Most visitors come to Khajuraho to see the 1,000-year-old erotic rock carvings at a cluster of World Heritage-listed Hindu and Jain temples.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Chitragupta Temple and Vaman Temple. When in Khajuraho, make a side trip to see Raneh Falls in Chhatarpur, approximately Chhatarpur away. And it doesn't end there: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Viswanath Temple, admire the landmark architecture of Lakshmana Temple, take an in-depth tour of Khajuraho, and admire the masterpieces at State Museum of Tribal and Folk Art.

To see reviews, other places to visit, more things to do, and more tourist information, read Khajuraho online trip itinerary maker.

You can drive from Bhopal to Khajuraho in 5.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of train and taxi. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 30th (Sat) early enough to travel back home.

The Heart of India; The Heart of Incredible India; MP
Centrally located in the subcontinent, Madhya Pradesh has been the crossroads of cultures and influences--Hindu, Buddhist, and Muslim alike--throughout its history. Things to see in Madhya Pradesh include ancient stone temple complexes with impressive towers and intricate erotic carvings, historic forts, elaborate mosques, and UNESCO-protected Mesolithic stone paintings. With a subtropical climate and 30 per cent of its territory covered by forest, the province offers numerous scenic hikes with waterfalls, hills, and rivulets to admire. Straddling the Narmada River, which runs through a magnificent marble gorge, Madhya Pradesh also abounds with wildlife and nature reserves. Visit the national park with the highest population density of tigers in the world, and see other magnificent animals while you're at it. Take a dip in one of the sacred rivers and sample regional cuisine rich with spices and exotic flavors.
