On the banks of the Vienne River, Chinon offers access to a rich wine area in the Loire Valley.
Start off your visit on the 8th (Sun): learn about winemaking at Chateau du Petit Thouars, admire the natural beauty at Chateau de Villandry, and then step into the grandiose world of Chateau of Azay-le-Rideau. On the 10th (Tue), examine the collection at Pierre et Lumiere, then explore the engaging exhibits at Le Cadre Noir, then get engrossed in the history at Musee des Blindes, and finally step into the grandiose world of Chateau de Saumur. Drive from Chinon to Saumur in an hour. Alternatively, you can take a train; or do a combination of bus and train. Traveling from Chinon in August, Saumur is little chillier at night with lows of 53°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 11th (Wed) to allow time to take a train back home.
