Packed with old stone churches in a unique urban landscape, La Serena represents one of Chile's oldest settlements, equally popular with architecture buffs and beachgoers.
Visit Reserva Nacional Pinguino de Humboldt and Playa Guanaqueros for some beach relaxation. You'll discover tucked-away gems like Playas Socos and Humedal de Pachingo. Get out of town with these interesting La Serena side-trips: Mamalluca Observatory (in Vicuna), Iglesia Chica de Andacollo (in Andacollo) and Monte Grande (Cavas Del Valle & Plazuela de Juegos Gabriela Mistral). Next up on the itinerary: get up close to creatures of the deep with a dolphin and whale watching tour, admire nature's wide array of creatures at Acuario y Museo Facultad de Ciencias del Mar, appreciate the views at Valle del Elqui, and take an in-depth tour of Gabriel Gonzalez Videla Museum.
