Odawara

Flanked on two sides by the Hakone Mountains, Odawara serves as a popular base for visits to the nearby Hakone hot springs, although the city boasts its own hot spring, as well as a scenic coastal area known for its clear, unspoiled waters.
Kick off your visit on the 3rd (Sun): stop by Suzuhiro Kamaboko Honten, examine the collection at Suzuhiro Kamaboko Museum, then get a new perspective on nature at Kanagawa Prefectural Museum of Natural History, then step into the grandiose world of Odawara Castle, and finally take in panoramic vistas at Odawara Castle Tenshukaku.

Tokyo to Odawara is an approximately 1.5-hour car ride. You can also drive. While traveling from Tokyo, expect a bit cooler days and about the same nights in Odawara, ranging from highs of 21°C to lows of 19°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 4th (Mon) so you can go by car to Izu.

Izu

Izu sits in the center of the mountainous Izu Peninsula.
On the 4th (Mon), go for a walk through Chikurinnokomichi, steep yourself in history at Shuzen-ji Temple, stroll around Shuzenji Nijino Sato, indulge your thirst for a good beer at Baird Brewery Gardens Shusenji, then admire the sheer force of Joren Waterfall, and finally learn more about the world around you at Joren Falls Museum.

Shimoda

You can drive from Izu to Shimoda in 1.5 hours. In May, plan for daily highs up to 25°C, and evening lows to 22°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 6th (Wed) so you can drive to Numazu.
