Hagen is the 41st-largest city in Germany. Hochsauerlandkreis and Wildpark will appeal to history buffs. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Wasserschloss Werdringen and Skigebiet Willingen. Venture out of the city with trips to Katzenbuckel Observation Tower (in Waldbrunn), Raiffeisenturm (in Busenhausen) and Gedenkstaette Hadamar (in Hadamar). There's still lots to do: see the interesting displays at Tuchmacher Museum, step into the grandiose world of Schloss Nordkirchen, admire the striking features of Stoffelpark, and admire the masterpieces at Osthaus Museum Hagen.

If you are flying in from Brazil, the closest major airports are Düsseldorf Airport, Dortmund Airport, Cologne Bonn Airport, Paderborn Lippstadt Airport, Münster Osnabrück Airport and Weeze Airport. February in Hagen sees daily highs of 6°C and lows of 1°C at night. Cap off your sightseeing on the 8th (Sat) early enough to travel back home.
