Durango

— 6 nights
Originally a frontier mining town, Durango is known today for its scenic setting, outdoor activities, and the 1880s steam-powered railway that takes visitors through sections of the mountains where roads don't reach.
Kids will enjoy Off-Road Tours and Zipline. Get out of town with these interesting Durango side-trips: Mesa Verde National Park (Balcony House & Cliff Palace), Cortez Cultural Center (in Cortez) and Silverton (Million Dollar Highway & Idarado Mine). There's lots more to do: relax and float downstream with a rafting and tubing tour, take a pleasant ride with a tour on horseback, tour the pleasant surroundings at Yankee Boy Basin, and browse the exhibits of Durango Fish Hatchery and Wildlife Museum.

To find photos, ratings, where to stay, and tourist information, read Durango holiday planning site.

In July, plan for daily highs up to 86°F, and evening lows to 54°F.
