Trails of Legends and Adventures

The center of Cherokee culture in the eastern part of the country, the town named after this Native American tribe serves as a base camp for hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains.
Appreciate the collections at Wheels Through Time Transportation Museum and Cherokee Heritage Museum and Gallery. Take a break from the city and head to Clingmans Dome and Cradle of Forestry. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Cherokee: Hartford (Bootleggers Distillery & River Rafting & Tubing), Stumphouse Mountain Tunnel (in Walhalla) and Great Smoky Mountains National Park (Mount LeConte, Foothills Parkway Southwest Parking, &more). There's much more to do: try to win big at Casino at Harrah’s Cherokee, see the interesting displays at Museum of the Cherokee Indian, steep yourself in history at Sky Valley Overlook, and browse the exhibits of Oconaluftee Indian Village.

To find more things to do, other places to visit, reviews, and other tourist information, use the Cherokee sightseeing planning website.

In May in Cherokee, expect temperatures between 75°F during the day and 49°F at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 31st (Sun) to allow enough time to travel back home.
