You'll find plenty of places to visit near Nara: Byodoin (in Uji), Sakurai (Tanzan Shrine, Omiwa Shrine, & more) and Daitokuji Temple (in Kyotanabe). Traveling by train from Chuo to Nara takes 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of tram, flight, bus, and train; or drive. In September, plan for daily highs up to 33°C, and evening lows to 26°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 7th (Mon) to allow time to travel to Sumiyoshi.
