The country's second city, Busan has often been referred to as South Korea's summer capital.
Venture out of the city with trips to Yeonji Park (in Gimhae), Seopilang Gongwon (in Tongyeong) and Beopgi Fountainhead (in Yangsan). Prince George, Canada to Busan is an approximately 27-hour flight. Traveling from Prince George to Busan, you'll lose 17 hours due to the time zone difference. Expect much hotter temperatures when traveling from Prince George in February; daily highs in Busan reach 10°C and lows reach 0°C. One of the most popular tourist destinations in the Republic of Korea, Gyeongju combines a rich cultural heritage with mountain and coastal scenery.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Gyeongju: Daegu (Seomun Market & Sanghwa Yi's Old House), Juwangsan National Park (in Cheongsong-gun) and Gatbawi Rock (in Gyeongsan). When traveling from Busan in March, plan for a bit cooler days in Gyeongju, with highs around 5°C, while nights are about the same with lows around 5°C. A large coastal city, Gangneung has been historically separated from much of the country because of the long, stretching mountain range that runs parallel to the sea.
Get out of town with these interesting Gangneung side-trips: Donghae (Mangsang Beac & Chuam Beach), Seoraksan National Park (in Sokcho) and Yangyang-gun (Naksansa Temple & Osaek Jujeongol Valley). A northern county in the Taebeak Mountain region of South Korea, Pyeongchang offers a plethora of year-round alpine resorts.
Get out of town with these interesting Pyeongchang-gun side-trips: Guryongsa Temple (in Wonju), Buseoksa Temple (in Yeongju) and Danyang-gun (Guinsa Temple, Gosu Cave, &more). One of east Asia's major cultural and financial centers, Seoul boasts five World Heritage Sites and a huge selection of museums, temples, shrines, palaces, parks, gardens, and glass-and-steel skyscrapers.
When in Seoul, make a side trip to see Korean Folk Village in Yongin, approximately Yongin away. Pack the 23rd (Tue) with family-friendly diversions at Lotte World.
