Soissons is a commune in the Aisne department in Hauts-de-France in northern France, located on the Aisne River, about 100km northeast of Paris. Chateau de Blandy-les-Tours and MusVerre are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Visiting Parc Argonne Decouverte and La Hotte du Diable will get you outdoors. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Soissons: Citadelle d'Arras (in Arras), Hebuterne (Serre Road Cemetery No.2 & Sheffield Memorial Park and Railway Hollow Cemetery) and Mametz (Devonshire Cemetery, Mametz War Memorial, &more). There's still lots to do: see the interesting displays at Musee des Hortillonnages, stroll the grounds of Oise-Aisne American Cemetery and Memorial, brush up on your military savvy at Musee de la Resistance et de la Deportation, and contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Eglise Saint-Medard de Parfondeval.

For more things to do, where to stay, and more tourist information, go to the Soissons online route planner.

If you are flying in from South Africa, the closest major aiports are Charles de Gaulle International Airport, Paris-Orly Airport and Paris Beauvais Tillé Airport. In June, plan for daily highs up to °C, and evening lows to °C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 4th (Sat) early enough to travel back home.
