Sasebo

— 59 nights
With its U.S. Navy base, Sasebo has certainly developed pockets with an international feel: in downtown, often known as Sailor Town, you'll happen upon a number of eateries serving American-style hamburgers.
Step out of the city life by going to Kujuku Island and Nijino Matsubara. Suwa Shrine and Miuracho Catholic Church are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Get out of town with these interesting Sasebo side-trips: Imari (Imari, Imari Bay, &more), Nagasaki (Glover Garden, Glover House and Office, &more) and Karatsu (Mt. Kagamiyama West Observation Deck, Nagoya Castle Ruins, &more). Pack the 25th (Thu) with family-friendly diversions at Huis Ten Bosch. And it doesn't end there: step off the mainland to explore Kujukushima Pearl Sea Resort, stroll around Nagasaki Prefectural Saikaibashi Park, learn about all things military at Maritime Self-Defense Force Sasebo Museum, and admire the natural beauty at Mifuneyama Rakuen.

If you are flying in from United States, the closest major aiports are Fukuoka Airport and Kagoshima Airport. In October, plan for daily highs up to 75°F, and evening lows to 63°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 16th (Sun) early enough to travel back home.
