Cairns

— 59 nights

The Gateway to the Great Barrier Reef

A neat, cosmopolitan city of shaded plazas and laid-back neighborhoods, Cairns serves as a popular base for exploration of the surrounding region and the Great Barrier Reef, as well as a center for watersport activities like surfing or waterskiing.
You'll enjoy a bit of beach vacationing at Four Mile Beach and Wonga Beach. Visiting Scuba & Snorkeling and Hartley's Crocodile Adventures will get you outdoors. Explore Cairns' surroundings by going to Port Douglas (Horses in Port, Safaris, &more), Mossman (Daintree Mangroves Wildlife Sanctuary, Shannonvale Tropical Fruit Winery, &more) and Daintree (Daintree Wild Zoo, Daintree Tea, &more). Spend the 14th (Tue) wandering through the wild on a nature and wildlife tour. Spend the 16th (Sun) exploring nature at Mt. Hypipamee National Park. There's lots more to do: stroll through Esplanade Boardwalk, take in nature's colorful creations at Botanical Gardens, identify plant and animal life at Mossman Gorge Centre, and push the limits with an extreme tour.

To see where to stay, more things to do, maps, and more tourist information, use the Cairns trip maker.

In July, daytime highs in Cairns are 30°C, while nighttime lows are 20°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 5th (Sat) so you can travel back home.
