The northernmost city in the country, Wakkanai experiences constant exposure to the elements, with windy and snow-covered winters perhaps its main claim to fame on a national level.
Explore Wakkanai's surroundings by going to Toyotomi-cho (Sarobetsu Marsh Center & Sarobetsu Primeval Garden) and Reindeer Ranch (in Horonobe-cho). Next up on the itinerary: make a trip to Soya Misaki, get up close and personal with brilliant marine life at Wakkanai City Noshappu Aquarium, stroll around Wakkanai Park, and enjoy breathtaking views from 100th Year Memorial Tower.

To see maps, more things to do, traveler tips, and other tourist information, you can read our Wakkanai trip planning app.

Expect a daytime high around °C in October, and nighttime lows around °C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 3rd (Sat) to allow enough time to drive to Asahikawa.
