Vernal, the county seat and largest city in Uintah County is in northeastern Utah, United States, about 175mi east of Salt Lake City and west of the Colorado border. You'll explore and learn at Utah Field House of Natural History State Park and Western Heritage Museum. Step off the beaten path and head to Harper's Corner and Moonshine Arch. Change things up with these side-trips from Vernal: Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area (in Manila), Jones Hole Trail (in Dinosaur) and Sand Wash Basin (in Maybell). There's still lots to do: take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at High Uintas Wilderness Area, immerse yourself in nature at Red Fleet State Park, explore the wealth of natural beauty at Dinosaur National Monument visitor center, and trek along Hog Canyon Trail.

To find traveler tips, maps, other places to visit, and tourist information, go to the Vernal trip builder site.

Salt Lake City to Vernal is an approximately 3-hour car ride. Plan for little chillier nights when traveling from Salt Lake City in June since evenings lows in Vernal dip to °F. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 13th (Sat) so you can travel back home.
