The landscape surrounding Catania, a medieval city on Sicily's eastern coast, is dominated by Mount Etna, the tallest active volcano in Europe.
Kick off your visit on the 5th (Sun): browse the exhibits of Palazzo Biscari and then contemplate the long history of Parco Archeologico Greco Romano di Catania. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: hunt for treasures at A' Piscaria Mercato del Pesce, ponder the design of Fontana dell'Amenano, steep yourself in history at Castello Normanno, then take a stroll around Piazza del Duomo di Acireale, and finally do a tasting at Gambino Vini.

Ljubljana, Slovenia to Catania is an approximately 5-hour combination of shuttle and flight. You can also fly; or do a combination of car and ferry. Once a flourishing ancient city, Ragusa was rebuilt after a devastating earthquake in 1693.
Start off your visit on the 7th (Tue): steep yourself in history at Duomo San Giorgio, then take in the architecture and atmosphere at Church of San Pietro, then take in the architecture and atmosphere at Cathedral of St. George, and finally look for gifts at Antica Dolceria Bonajuto.

Drive from Catania to Ragusa in 2 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or take a train. Expect a daytime high around 17°C in January, and nighttime lows around 5°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 7th (Tue) so you can go by car to Palermo.
