Ponta Delgada

— 4 nights
As the busy capital of São Miguel, Ponta Delgada represents the most visited place on the island. Known for its historical buildings, the city offers 17th- and 18th-century convents and churches, as well as cobbled pedestrian streets and hidden squares.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Parque Natural da Ribeira dos Caldeiroes and Salto do Cabrito. Get outdoors at Lagoa das Furnas and Lagoas Empadadas. Change things up with a short trip to Centro de Monitorizacao e Investigacao das Furnas in Furnas (about 42 minutes away). And it doesn't end there: pause for some serene contemplation at Igreja do Santo Cristo, contemplate the waterfront views at Lagoa Azul, Sao Miguel Acores, take in the spiritual surroundings of Nossa Senhora da Paz, and experience rural life at Arruda Pineapple Plantation.

Green Island
Known as The Green Island, Sao Miguel is the largest of the nine islands of Azores and is considered a natural paradise. These islands were discovered in the 15th century and, according to myth, are reputed to be part of the lost empire of Atlantis. Sao Miguel's most prominent feature is a set of twin lakes, one of which is blue and the other green. Visitors also enjoy the island's park, golf courses, beaches, mountains, marina, and ocean views. Stop for a look at the city's monuments and architecture, and experience the cobbled streets lined with a variety of restaurants, shops, bars, and cafes.
