An ancient city from the Viking Age, today Roskilde welcomes a new crowd, especially as host of Roskilde Festival, a popular rock festival in Europe.
Family-friendly places like Frederiksborg Castle and Birkegaardens Haver will thrill your kids. Get out of town with these interesting Roskilde side-trips: Nordsjaellands Fuglepark (in Graested), Knuthenborg Safaripark (in Maribo) and Guldborgsund Zoo & Botanisk Have (in Nykobing Falster). There's much more to do: take an in-depth tour of Viking Ship Museum, browse the exhibits of Skt. Laurentii Kirkeruin, pause for some serene contemplation at Roskilde Domkirke, and get curious at Ringsted Radiomuseum.

To see photos, ratings, more things to do, and more tourist information, use the Roskilde travel site.

If you are flying in from Germany, the closest major aiports are Copenhagen Kastrup Airport, Aarhus Airport and Billund Airport. March in Roskilde sees daily highs of 9°C and lows of 1°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 14th (Sat) to allow time to travel back home.
