The Forest City
Maine's biggest and perhaps most vibrant city, Portland was established as a fishing village in 1633 and grew to become New England's largest port.Get a sense of the local culture at Victoria Mansion and St. Ann's Episcopal Church. Take a break from the city and head to Walker's Point and Fishing Charters & Tours. Go for a jaunt from Portland to Kennebunkport to see Ocean Ave about 44 minutes away. There's much more to do: enjoy the sand and surf at Casco Bay, sample the tasty concoctions at Shipyard Brewing Company, contemplate the long history of Wadsworth-Longfellow House, and enjoy the sea views from Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse.
