Whangarei is the northernmost city in New Zealand and the regional capital of Northland Region. Russell, formerly known as Kororāreka, was the first permanent European settlement and sea port in New Zealand. Kerikeri, the largest town in Northland New Zealand, is a popular tourist destination about three hours drive north of Auckland, and 80 km north of the northern region's largest city, Whangarei.
