The port city of Niigata has an association with tourism, but not really one to do with the city itself.
Let the collections at Niigata Niitsu Railway Museum and Shirone Kite Museum capture your imagination. Get outdoors at Sekiyahama Beach and Nishikaigan Park. Venture out of the city with trips to Shibata (Akatani Cycling Road & Koji Fukiya Memorial Hall), Sasagawa Nagare Beach (in Murakami) and Sado (Sawada Beach & Sado Legend Hall). There's much more to do: take an in-depth tour of Niigata Prefectural Museum of History, see the interesting displays at Nagaoka Gear Museum, admire the natural beauty at Ikutopia Shoku Hana, and stop by Teradomari Chuo Suisan.

If you are flying in from Thailand, the closest major aiport is Niigata Airport. In July, daily temperatures in Niigata can reach 32°C, while at night they dip to 26°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 5th (Mon) to allow enough time to travel back home.
