Lyon is a historical city with a vibrant cultural scene as the birthplace of cinema, the silk capital of the globe, and the second biggest Renaissance city following Venice.

Visit Cite medievale de Perouges and Monastere Royal de Brou for their historical value. Fresque des Lyonnais and Cite du Chocolat Valrhona will appeal to museum buffs. Change things up with these side-trips from Lyon: Collegiale Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul (in Saint-Donat-sur-l'Herbasse), Domaine Boissonnet (in Serrieres) and Palais Ideal du Facteur Cheval (in Hauterives).
