Kobe

— 5 nights
Walkable, small, and aesthetically charming, Kobe has served as Japan's first and premier international trading outpost since opening to trade with China in the mid-19th century.
Take a break from the city and head to Nara Park and Nunobiki Falls (Nunobiki-No-Taki). For shopping fun, head to Nankinmachi (Kobe Chinatown) or Kanku Observation Hall Sky View. Venture out of the city with trips to Koya-cho (Koyasan Okunoin, Kongobu-ji Temple, &more), Himeji (Himeji Castle & Koko-en) and Nara (Kofuku-ji Temple & Todai-ji Temple). And it doesn't end there: visit Kobe Harborland, gain insight at Disaster Reduction and Human Renovation Institution, revel in the low prices at Kobe Sanda Premium Outlets, and see where the action happens at Hanshin Koshien Stadium.

For reviews, maps, and other tourist information, use the Kobe itinerary site.

If you are flying in from Israel, the closest major aiports are Osaka International Airport, Kansai International Airport and Takamatsu Airport. In October, plan for daily highs up to 26°C, and evening lows to 20°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 9th (Wed) early enough to travel back home.
