Kagoshima sits across the bay from Sakurajima, an active volcano that serves as a symbol of the city and works its way into many aspects of life here.
Explore Kagoshima's surroundings by going to Ibusuki (Onsen Resorts, JR Southernmost Nishioyama Station, & more), Minamikyushu (Chiran Samurai Residence Garden & Chiran Peace Museum) and Kirishima (Kirishima Shrine Viewing Point, Kirishima Shrine, & more). There's lots more to do: go for a walk through Sengan-en, admire the masterpieces at Nagashima Museum, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Tsukiyomi Shrine, and appreciate the history behind Saigo Takamori Statue.

For more things to do, reviews, and other tourist information, refer to the Kagoshima trip builder site .
