Kick off your visit on the 1st (Fri): make a trip to Shibuya Crossing, make a trip to Meiji Jingu Shrine, then take in nature's colorful creations at Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, then get a sense of history and politics at Tokyo Metropolitan Government Buildings, and finally admire the striking features of Tokyo Tower.

Getting from Niigata to Osaka by combination of flight and bus takes about 3.5 hours. Other options: take a train; or drive. Expect a bit warmer weather when traveling from Niigata in May: highs in Osaka hover around 29°C, while lows dip to 18°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 3rd (Sun) early enough to take a train to Nara.

The country's first established capital, Nara houses some of the most storied buildings and natural attractions in Japan, with eight World Heritage Sites in total.
On the 4th (Mon), contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kofuku-ji Temple, appreciate the history behind Todai-ji Temple, see the interesting displays at Todaiji Temple Cultural Center, then look for all kinds of wild species at Nara Park, and finally take in the spiritual surroundings of Kasuga Grand Shrine.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Start off your visit on the 5th (Tue): steep yourself in history at Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine, then don't miss a visit to Kiyomizu-dera Temple, and then take in the spiritual surroundings of Jishu Shrine. On the 6th (Wed), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: contemplate the long history of Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Kinkaku-ji, then step into the grandiose world of Nijo Castle, and finally visit Gion.
