Gifu

— 5 nights
Bordered by verdant mountains, quaint villages, and fruit orchards, the city of Gifu boasts a well-developed historic center and swift connections to Nagoya.
Venture out of the city with trips to Inuyama (Inuyama Castle & Inuyama Jokamachi), Seki (Cutler Sanshu / Seki Hamono Museum & Takazawa Kannon) and Nakasendo Unumajuku Wakihonjin (in Kakamigahara). The adventure continues: step into the grandiose world of Gifu Castle / Inabayama Castle, contemplate the waterfront views at Lake Biwa, examine the collection at Gero Onsen Gassho Village, and let little ones run wild at Nagara Park.

To see photos, other places to visit, where to stay, and more tourist information, go to the Gifu day trip planning site.

If you are flying in from United States, the closest major aiports are Chubu Centrair International Airport, Komatsu Airport / JASDF Komatsu Air Base and Osaka International Airport. In May, plan for daily highs up to 70°F, and evening lows to 63°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 22nd (Fri) so you can travel back home.
