Edinburgh

Athens of the North

World Heritage-listed Edinburgh combines ancient and modern in a uniquely Scottish atmosphere.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Bamburgh Castle and Rosslyn Chapel. Get some cultural insight at Cragside House and Gardens and Grace Darling Museum. Venture out of the city with trips to St Andrews Links (in St. Andrews), Berwick upon Tweed (Lady Waterford Hall & Royal Border Bridge) and The McManus: Dundee's Art Gallery & Museum (in Dundee). There's still lots to do: do a tasting at Cairn O'Mohr Fruit Wines, stroll the grounds of Old Calton Burial Ground, pause for some photo ops at National Wallace Monument, and stroll through Beadnell Bay Beach.

For photos, other places to visit, where to stay, and more tourist information, use the Edinburgh online route planner.

If you are flying in from United States, the closest major aiports are Edinburgh Airport, Glasgow International Airport and Glasgow Prestwick Airport. In May, plan for daily highs up to 58°F, and evening lows to 43°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 15th (Wed) early enough to travel back home.
