Originally a frontier mining town, Durango is known today for its scenic setting, outdoor activities, and the 1880s steam-powered railway that takes visitors through sections of the mountains where roads don't reach.
You'll explore and learn at Durango Fish Hatchery and Wildlife Museum and Toh-Atin Gallery. Step off the beaten path and head to Park Point and Square Tower House. Venture out of the city with trips to Mesa Verde National Park (Cliff Palace, Balcony House, &more) and Notah Dineh Trading Company and Museum (in Cortez). The adventure continues: trek along The Colorado Trail and grab your bike and head to Rotary Park.
