The Birthplace of Democracy

One of the world's most ancient cities, Athens remains Europe's undisputed historical and cultural capital.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Temple of Hephaestus and Temple of Athena Nike. Venture out of the city with trips to Fortress Palamidi (in Nafplio), Zoodochou Pigis Church (in Kefalari) and Lion Gate (in Mycenae). There's much more to do: delve into the distant past at Acropolis of Athens, take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Mount Lycabettus, snap pictures at Submersible Bridges, and appreciate the extensive heritage of Philopappos Hill.
