Surrounded by the Atacama Desert, Copiapo receives very little rainfall and owes its existence to the mining industry.
Explore Copiapo's surroundings by going to Caldera (Playa la virgen & Iglesia de San Vicente de Paul). There's still lots to do: look for all kinds of wild species at Desierto Florido, kick back and relax at Bahia Inglesa, tour the pleasant surroundings at Puerto Viejo, and see the interesting displays at Museo Regional de Atacama.

Santiago to Copiapo is an approximately 4.5-hour combination of flight and shuttle. You can also drive; or take a bus. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 5th (Tue) so you can travel to Chanaral.

Huasco
Huasco is a Chilean city and commune, in the Huasco Province, Atacama Region.The port city of Huasco is located 50 km west of Vallenar and close to the town of Huasco Bajo, which lies on the southern bank of the Huasco River and only a few km from its mouth. Kick off your visit on the 7th (Thu): experience rural life at Payantume Extra Virgin Olive Oil, then stroll through Tres Playitas, and then take in the waterfront at Costanera de Huasco.
