Valley of the Vapors

Set deep in the Ouachita Mountains, the city of Hot Springs almost completely surrounds the national park of the same name.
Bring the kids along to Garvan Woodland Gardens and Spas. Change things up with these side-trips from Hot Springs: Little Rock (Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site, William J. Clinton Presidential Library, &more). There's much more to do: contemplate the long history of Fordyce Bathhouse, pause for some serene contemplation at Anthony Chapel, kick your exploration up a notch at some of the top local zipline courses and adventure parks, and take in panoramic vistas at Hot Springs Mountain Tower.

Austin to Hot Springs is an approximately 6-hour flight. You can also drive; or do a combination of bus and taxi. In May, Hot Springs is a bit cooler than Austin - with highs of 79°F and lows of 60°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 2nd (Wed) so you can drive to Eureka Springs.

Little Switzerland of America

Nestled in the heart of the Ozark Mountains, the whole town of Eureka Springs is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Kick off your visit on the 3rd (Thu): stroll through Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge, take an in-depth tour of The Walmart Museum, then admire the masterpieces at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, and finally walk around Bentonville Town Square. On the 4th (Fri), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: take in the spiritual surroundings of Thorncrown Chapel, then take a stroll through Eureka Springs Historical Downtown, and then pause for some photo ops at Christ of the Ozarks.

Getting from Hot Springs to Eureka Springs by car takes about 5 hours. Other options: do a combination of taxi and bus. Expect a daytime high around 84°F in June, and nighttime lows around 67°F. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 4th (Fri) so you can catch the flight back home.
