Known to most by its German name Auschwitz, the modestly sized city of Oswiecim sits at the foot of the Jura Mountains, just 50 km (30 mi) west of Krakow.
Start off your visit on the 1st (Sun): get engrossed in the history at Panstwowe Muzeum Auschwitz-Birkenau and then explore the historical opulence of Zamek Lipowiec. On your second day here, see the interesting displays at Treasures of the Earth / Mineral Museum and then fly down the slopes at Czarny Gron.
