A major transit hub in western Japan, Okayama provides a convenient mid-point between Kyoto, Osaka, and Hiroshima.
Get out of town with these interesting Okayama side-trips: Manabe Island (in Kasaoka), Mitoyo (Mt. Shiude & Nishihama Beach) and Hiroshima (Hiroshima Castle, Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, &more). Naha, the capital of Okinawa, has deep roots: Stone Age relics have been found in the city, and through the Middle Ages it rose in importance in the Ryukyu Kingdom.

Prepare for little chillier weather when traveling from Naha in September: high temperatures in Fukuoka hover around 32°C and lows are around 24°C.
