Historians often describe Xi'an, capital city for over a dozen dynasties, as the birthplace of Chinese civilization.
Take a break from Xi'an with a short trip to Red River Valley Forest Park in Mei County, about 1h 55 min away. Spend the 20th (Tue) wandering through the wild on Travel China Guide. Nine villages make up Jiuzhaigou County, a valley with a wealth of natural sites protected by UNESCO. Some of the natural sites are considered holy by the local Tibetan and Qiang minorities, with many legends and anecdotes associated with each lake, waterfall, off-shoot valley, and snowcapped peak.
Get out of town with these interesting Jiuzhaigou County side-trips: Songpan County (Huanglong Scenic Valley & Huanglong Valley). Spend the 24th (Sat) exploring nature at Jiuzhaigou Natural Reserve. And it doesn't end there: make a trip to Jiuzhaigou National Arts Center, appreciate the views at Rize Valley, and stroll through Upper Seasonal Sea in Jiuzhaigou Valley.

Emeishan

A city forever linked with the mountain of the same name, Emeishan sits next to one of the four sacred Buddhist mountains of China, now a World Heritage Site.

Suzhou on the Plateau

The cultural capital of the Naxi people, one of the 55 minority ethnic groups in the country, Lijang traces its history back over 800 years, with the city developing from a trading post on the ancient Southern Silk Road.
Start off your visit on the 2nd (Sun): admire the local landmark of Black Dragon Pond Park and then don't miss a visit to Old Town of Lijiang - China. Keep things going the next day: explore the striking landscape of Three Parallel Rivers National Park.

Lhasa
