You'll find plenty of places to visit near Himeji: Kurashiki (Ohara Museum of Art & Japanese Rural Toy Museum), Kunimi no Mori Park (in Shiso) and Okayama (Nanaku Strawberry Farm & Okayama Korakuen Garden).
