Founded in 1535 by Spanish explorer Francisco Pizarro, Lima represents an interesting blend of modern attractions and preserved colonial architecture, much of it clustered in the World Heritage-listed city center.
Your inner history buff will appreciate Huaca Pucllana and Cathedral of Lima. Head to Shopping Center Larcomar (Centro Comercial Larcomar) and La Kasa Rojafor plenty of shopping. Get out of town with these interesting Lima side-trips: Callao (Balneario La Punta, Palomino, &more), Huaral (Reserva Nacional Lomas de Lachay & Complejo Arqueologico de Rupac) and Huarochiri (El Canon de Austisha & Huanano Falls). Spend the 24th (Sun) wandering through the wild on a nature and wildlife tour. Make the 30th (Sat) an unforgettable day with an extreme tour. There's still lots to do: glide through the air with a parasailing or paragliding tour, ponder the design of Plaza de Armas (Plaza Mayor), stroll through Toboganes de Songos, and walk around Circuito Magico Del Agua.
