Split into two parts by the Kinokawa River, the city of Wakayama stands nestled in the eponymous plain, overlooked by a historic hilltop castle that was rebuilt after World War II.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Wakayama: Nara (Nara Park, Todai-ji Temple, & more) and Koya-cho (Koyasan Okunoin, Mt. Koya, & more). There's still lots to do: contemplate the long history of Site of Miyama Batttery, step into the grandiose world of Wakayama Castle, examine the collection at Kao Eco Lab Museum, and take in the spiritual surroundings of Kimiidera Temple.

For where to stay, reviews, photos, and tourist information, use the Wakayama trip itinerary planner.

In September, daily temperatures in Wakayama can reach 32°C, while at night they dip to 25°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 5th (Thu) early enough to travel back home.
