Ponta Delgada

As the busy capital of São Miguel, Ponta Delgada represents the most visited place on the island. Known for its historical buildings, the city offers 17th- and 18th-century convents and churches, as well as cobbled pedestrian streets and hidden squares.
Your day by day itinerary now includes Furnas, Lagoa Azul, Sao Miguel Acores and Caldeira das Sete Cidades. You'll discover tucked-away gems like Lagoa do Congro and Boca do Inferno Viewpoint. Take a break from the city and head to Mosteiros Beach and Lagoa do Canario. Next up on the itinerary: look for all kinds of wild species at Caldeira Velha Environmental Interpretation Centre.

To see more things to do, other places to visit, where to stay, and tourist information, you can read our Ponta Delgada trip itinerary planning tool.

Lisbon to Ponta Delgada is an approximately 5-hour flight. You can also fly. The time zone difference moving from Western European Standard Time (WET) to Azores Standard Time (AZOT) is minus 1 hour. Traveling from Lisbon in June, expect nights in Ponta Delgada to be about the same, around 19°C, while days are a bit cooler, around 24°C. On the 23rd (Sun), you'll travel back home.

Green Island
Known as The Green Island, Sao Miguel is the largest of the nine islands of Azores and is considered a natural paradise. These islands were discovered in the 15th century and, according to myth, are reputed to be part of the lost empire of Atlantis. Sao Miguel's most prominent feature is a set of twin lakes, one of which is blue and the other green. Visitors also enjoy the island's park, golf courses, beaches, mountains, marina, and ocean views. Stop for a look at the city's monuments and architecture, and experience the cobbled streets lined with a variety of restaurants, shops, bars, and cafes.
